FAIRFIELD, Conn. – With just two games remaining on the schedule, the Fairfield University field hockey team will close out the 2022 regular season with a pair of home games this weekend.
The Stags play their final Northeast Conference (NEC) match when they host Stonehill College on Friday at 3 pm on University Field. The team returns to the home pitch on Sunday for a non-conference game with La Salle University which will feature a senior ceremony prior to the game.
Fairfield comes off another come-from-behind victory last weekend, erasing a two-goal deficit to rally for a 3-2 victory at LIU. The victory clinched a berth to the NEC Tournament which will be hosted by Wagner College on November 4-6. The Stags collected the win courtesy of three goals from
Nora Amme, who scored twice in the second quarter and once in the fourth quarter. Amme was selected the NEC Offensive Player of the Week for her performance.
Amme ranks seventh in the conference with her seven goals and is tied for third with her eight assists for the season. The graduate student is also fifth in the conference with 22 total points which breaks down to 1.38 points per game played.
Julianna Kratz and
Frances Mirabile are tied for second among their teammates with 10 points with Kratz picking up most of those points off her four goals and Mirabile registering a majority of her scoring off her six assists.
Stonehill opens the weekend with a 2-11 overall record and a 1-5 NEC mark after Saint Francis University edged the team out with its 1-0 win last Sunday. The Skyhawks have several student-athletes who have enjoyed success inside the circle led by Raegan Hickey and Makayla Strickulis. Hickey paces the offense with her five goals and one assist for 11 points while Strickulis adds three goals including a game winner to the team's totals.
Goalkeeper Shannon Conte has defended the Skyhawks' goal in each of the team's 13 matches played this year. She averages better than 10 saves per outing, registering 144 stops in her 13 appearances (10.1 per game). With that number in hand, Conte holds a strong .704 save percentage this year.
La Salle will complete its Atlantic-10 conference schedule on Friday against Saint Joseph's before traveling to the Nutmeg State for Sunday's 1 pm match. The Explorers start the weekend with an 8-9 overall record and a 3-3 conference mark.
The team posted its fourth shutout of the campaign against Saint Louis University on October 21 behind three saves from goalkeeper Ryan Curley. Curley lowered her goals against average to 1.89 and raised her save percentage to .704 following the Saint Louis match.
Tatum Johnson has put together a stellar season with 13 goals and five assists for 31 points through her 17 games played. She has scored two goals in three games and at least one point in 10 contests this season. Peyton Tollaksen has also reached double figures for scoring with four goals and two assists in 17 starts.
