Women's Rowing Picks Up First Place Finishes At Tail Of The Housatonic

SHELTON, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's rowing team carried the momentum from the season opener into this weekend's Tail of the Housatonic. The Stags picked up first-place runs in the 2k varsity 4 and second varsity 8 races and a second place finish in the 5k varsity 8 race.

The 5k varsity 8 race was first on the docket and saw Fairfield place three entries into the event. Sacred Heart took the top spot with a time of 16:14.87 with the Stags taking the next spot by crossing the line in 16:34.26 behind the efforts of Arianna Welton, Adalia Flores, Meghan Megill, Chloe Lennon, Emma Szachta, Catherine Morrissey, Kathryn Bergstrom, Arden Costello, and coxswain Erin Dobbs.

Fairfield also secured a third-place finish in the race by timing out at 16:42.05 courtesy of Miranda Schmidt, Sarah Wendling, Kiersten Murray, Emily Regan, Natalia Bertolotti, Florencia Caces, Isabella King, Christina Caruso, and coxswain Michaela Thompson. The next Stag entry took home fifth place with a time of 17:42.93 as Gia Enderle, Alicia Glasheen, Makayla Reardon, Megan Blair, Shaylin Tombs, Grace McDonough, Olivia Burghardt, Caroline McAndrew, Marianna Kalin.

The novice 8 also participated in the 5k race by completing its run in 19:00.60 for sixth in the standings. Lillian Krol, Julianna Pedrazzi, Kara Davidson, Alyssa Colombrita, Alyson Moore, Mia Van Mater, Chloe Trudel, Miranda Crawford, and coxswain Ellery McSpedon comprised the entry.

The teams also competed on a 2k course that included varsity 4 and varsity 8 events. Fairfield's A boat won the varsity 4 race by completing the course in 8:36.9 behind the efforts of Arianna Welton, Emily Regan, Isabella King, Arden Costello, and coxswain Erin Dobbs. The B boat included Kiersten Murray, Chloe Lennon, Natalia Bertolotti, Grace McDonough, and coxswain Marianna Kalin, a group that crossed the line in 906.1 for third place.

In the varsity 8 race, the A boat captured the top spot with a time of 8:08.1 while the B boat was third following its finish in 8:38.6. The A boat was comprised by Miranda Schmidt, Florencia Caces, Meghan Megill, Christina Caruso, Emma Szachta, Megan Blair, Kathryn Bergstrom, Catherine Morrissey, and coxswain Ellery McSpedon. The B boat included Gia Enderle, Megan Rourke, Olivia Burghardt, Mia Van Mater, Shaylin Tombs, Adalia Flores, Cassie Reilly, Caroline McAndrew, Michaela Thompson.

The Stags will be back in action on October 22 when they head north for the Head of the Charles on October 22.
