FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will close out the road portion of their 2022 schedule when they embark to Western New York to face the Canisius Golden Griffs on Saturday at 1pm. The Stags enter the match with a 6-1 conference mark and place second in the MAAC with 18 points.
Fairfield is coming off their most exciting win of the season as they found the game-winning goal with just 11 seconds left on the clock in a 2-1 victory over Saint Peter's.
Elle Scott was the Stags to tap in the game-winning tally as she took a cross from
Maddy Theriault at the far post and converted the wide-open chance.
Maddie Mills started the play by keeping the ball alive and hitting it up the field towards Theriault.
The victory improved Fairfield's record to 11-3, tying the most wins in a single season under Head Coach
David Barrett. The .786 winning percentage ranks second in the MAAC and 23rd in the country. It also marked the 300th win in program history.
Canisius enters play with a 4-3-7 mark and have recorded a 0-0 draw in four of their last five matches. The Griffs have not allowed a goal in 527 consecutive minutes after surrendering just a lone goal against Quinnipiac on September 24. The Griffs lead the MAAC with a 0.57 goals against average including a 0.29 mark in conference matches.
Fairfield will return home to Lessing Field for their final two matches starting with a Saturday afternoon contest against Niagara at noon. Before the match, the Stags will honor their nine-member Senior Class.
