FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will open up a three-game homestand when they welcome the Saint Peter's Peacocks to Webster Bank Arena on Tuesday afternoon at 1pm. The game is a makeup contest which was originally scheduled for Jan. 6.
The game will also be the beginning of a long homestand for the Stags, which includes three-straight games and six of their next seven contests. Fairfield holds a 30-9 record at home in the series against Saint Peter's, but will be playing the Peacocks at Webster Bank Arena for the first time since 2005.
Fairfield enters play with a MAAC best 9-1 record after defeating Marist on the road 59-39. The Stags' defense locked down the Red Foxes in the second half, holding Marist to just one field goal over a 13-minute span. Fairfield did not allow a fourth quarter field goal until the final minute as they started the period on a 10-0 run.
Lou Lopez-Senechal led the Stags with her ninth-straight 20-point game as she shot 50 percent from the floor. The nine consecutive games ties Fairfield's program record which was set by the program's all-time leading scorer Gail Strumpf-Cheney, who accomplished the feat during the 2000-01 season.
Andrea Hernangomez also had an impressive outing against the Red Foxes as she recorded her fourth double-double of the season. She added 16 points and led the team with 12 rebounds and tied for the team-high with four assists out of the post. For the season, Hernangomez ranks third in the MAAC with 8.9 rebounds per game.
Saint Peter's brings a 5-3 conference record into the game and is also coming off a win against Marist. Kendrea Williams leads the team with a 16.7 per game scoring average while connecting on 38 percent of her shots from 3-point range. Kassondra Brown leads the team with 9.1 rebounds and is also the team leader with 2.3 assists out of the post.
The Stags will begin a busy week with three games in a five-day span, continuing with a visit from Niagara on Thursday at 7pm.
