Stags Close Out Road Trip at Marist

FAIRFIELD, Conn., - The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will close out a three-game road trip when they visit the Marist Red Foxes on Thursday night at 7pm. The Stags, who are on one of their best conference starts in program history, will look to sweep the season series against the Red Foxes for the first time since 2001.

The Stags are coming off their biggest comeback win of the season, rallying against Monmouth after trailing by 13 in the first quarter.

Fairfield trailed by four heading into the final quarter, but would outscore the Hawks 21-10 in the fourth. Callie Cavanaugh came up clutch in the final quarter, netting 12 in the final 10 minutes including six-straight to tie the game.

Cavanaugh was one of three Stags in double figures, led by Lou Lopez-Senechal's game-high 21 points. It was the eighth-straight game that Lopez-Senechal netted at least 20 points, the second longest streak in school history. The program's all-time leading scorer Gail Strumpf Cheney is the only other Stag to reach 20 or more points in more consecutive contests with nine-straight during the 1999-2000 season.

Sydney Lowery joined the duo as she reached 10 points, shooting 5-for-6 from the field.

With their lone loss on the week at Siena, the Stags dropped out of the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 poll, but are still receiving votes in the national poll. Fairfield was ranked No. 24 in the poll last week and are now tallying 20 votes, the 31st most in the poll.

The Stags were victorious over Marist 57-52 in their first meeting in the MAAC opener. Lopez-Senechal led three Stags in double figures with 18 points. Fairfield has not swept the regular season series against Marist since the 2000-01 season.

Fairfield will play eight of their final 11 games at home, starting with a Tuesday afternoon matchup against Saint Peter's at 1pm.
