Stags Start Road Trip at Siena on Saturday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will look to match their best conference start in program history when they open up a three-game series at Siena on Saturday at 2pm. The Stags have won their first seven games in the MAAC slate for just the second time in program history, trailing just the 2000-01 squad who started 8-0 in the MAAC.

The Stags ran their winning streak to seven-straight with an impressive win over Manhattan at Webster Bank Arena, clinching Head Coach Joe Frager's 250th win at Fairfield. Lou Lopez-Senechal led four Stags in double figures as she reached 20 points for the sixth-straight game. Rachel Hakes filled out the stat column with a season-high 13 points, six rebounds, and a career-high six steals.

With her 20 points, Lopez-Senechal moved into 16th place on the all-time list with 1,297 points.

Fairfield used a 20-2 run to break a tie game in the second quarter as the Stags shot 53 percent and tallied 25 points in the quarter. Sam Lewis led the Stags with seven points during the game deciding stretch with Sydney Lowery also adding six.

Andrea Hernangomez showed her toughness on the boards as she battled against the MAAC's leading rebounder Courtney Warley and pulled down nine rebounds. Hernangomez ranks third in the MAAC and 53rd nationally with 9.3 boards.

Fairfield was able to protect the ball with just eight turnovers in the contest, the fourth game this season that the Stags had fewer than 10 turnovers. For the season, the Stags lead the MAAC and rank seventh nationally with 11.7 miscues per game.

The Stags have won the last eight games in the series, holding the longest winning streak against any opponent. Lewis had an historic night in the last meeting setting a program single game record with 39 points and shot 11-for-13, setting the MAAC record.

This will be the start of a three game road trip for the Stags and they will next travel to Monmouth on Monday at 7pm.
