Klarmann’s Late Tally Extends Stags Unbeaten Streak

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Freshman forward Reagan Klarmann scored the game's go-ahead goal with just 90 seconds remaining as the Fairfield University Women's Soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to eight-straight matches with a 3-2 victory over reigning MAAC Champions Siena on Wednesday night. Klarmann's game-winner highlighted an exciting match that also featured two goals from sophomore Elle Scott. All three Fairfield goals came with an assist as Lexi Lehan, Allie Kirby, and Maddie Kiely all picked up helpers for the Stags.

The eight match unbeaten streak is the longest for the Stags since the 2008 season.

"I'm pleased with the result," Head Coach David Barrett said.  "I thought we were the better team from start to finish. We let the game get away from us at points but there's going to be days like this where we have to dig ourselves out. I never really felt that we were going to lose. We just need to clean some things up, we know we're not perfect and we have to fix some things going forward. I'm proud of the result and our fight and we got some good goals tonight."

The best goal the Stags got tonight came with just 90 seconds remaining on the clock. Klarmann found a pass from Maddie Kiely towards the top of the box. The freshman switched the ball to her left foot, clearing space between herself and the defender and sent a shot inside the right side of the post for the eventual game-winner. It was the second career game-winner for Klarmann.

"Reagan is a very good player and that's why we brought her here," Coach Barrett said. "She's obviously had a good stretch so far. She's a confident kid, she plays with an edge and it's not a surprise. That's a mentality that we want to have in our new players. It makes it a lot easier when you have that coming in and it's not the normal progression. Reagan is the type of kid who wants to come in and make a statement and she's done so."

Klarmann was not the only Stag to make a statement in a match where the Stags downed the reigning MAAC Champions. Sophomore Elle Scott collected her second multi-goal contest by picking up a goal in the 18th and 68th minutes.

Scott's first goal opened up the scoring in the first half as she headed in a cross from the reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, Lexi Lehan.

After Siena grabbed the lead with a goal in the 61st minute, Scott answered right back after a throw-in from Allie Kirby found the center of the box, and was dribbled out by Scott. The sophomore was able to spin with the ball and take a quick left-footed strike right past the keeper to tie the game at 2-2.

The Saints were able to tie the game in the first half, despite taking only one shot. Fairfield out-shot the Saints 10-1 in the first 45 minutes with seven of those on target. Siena goalkeeper Leslie Adams was able to make five saves in the first half and the Siena defense picked up another as they were the last line of defense on a shot by Scott in the 39th minute.

For the game, the Stags out-shot the Saint 17-5, marking the second fewest shots allowed by the Stags this season. Klarmann and Scott combined for 10 of those attempts with Gabby Diodati following the dup with three shots.

The eight game unbeaten streak is the longest for the Stags since they had a nine game unbeaten streak in 2008, their last MAAC Championship season.

The Stags will once again put their streak on the line when they embark on their longest road trip of the season, traveling to Niagara to face the red-hot Purple Eagles on Saturday at noon.
