Women’s Soccer Hosts Reigning MAAC Champions Siena on Wednesday Night

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will host the reigning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Champions, the Siena Saints on Wednesday night at 7pm. The Stags enter the match with a seven-game unbeaten streak, their longest unbeaten streak in a decade.

Fairfield's most recent victory was a 3-0 triumph over Rider on Saturday afternoon. The Stags started the match with two goals inside the first 16 minutes of the game, both helped out by Gabby Diodati. The graduate student would knot the first goal of the game on a penalty kick set up by a handball off a cross by Maddie Kiely. The score would be the sixth goal of the year for Diodati, setting a new career-high.

Diodati also set up Fairfield's second goal at the 15 minute mark. Diodati sent a cross over to the middle of the net where Lexi Lehan was able to flick the pass over the head of Rider's goalkeeper.

For the season, Diodati ranks fourth in the MAAC with 15 points and tied for third with six goals.

Lehan would later record her first career multi-goal game as she headed in a cross from Reagan Klarmann in the second half to finalize the 3-0 score. With Lehan's two goals on three shots, the senior was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career. Lehan has appeared in all 10 matches for the Stags this season after checking into just 11 in her previous three seasons.

The clean sheet was the fourth of the season for the Stags' defense and the first under goalkeeper Aytana Muschajew. The senior tallied three saves in her first start of the season.

The Stags recorded a season-high 29 shots in the contest.

The Saints bring a 3-5-1 record into the match and a 1-0 mark in conference play, a double overtime win over Rider. Emily McNelis leads the team with six points on two goals and two assists. Carrie Korhn is the team biggest playmaker with four assists.

Fairfield will hit the road for their longest road trip of the season when they travel to the country's border to face Niagara in Western New York on Saturday at noon.
