Women’s Soccer Hosts Rider in MAAC Home Opener

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team, unbeaten in their last six matches, will look to continue that streak when they host the Rider Broncs on Saturday at 1pm in Fairfield's first home game in MAAC play. With a result against Rider, the Stags will extend their unbeaten streak to seven matches, the longest since 2011.

The Stags gained their first point in MAAC play with a 1-1 draw at Marist to open up MAAC play. After surrendering the game's first goal in the closing minutes of the first half, the Stags responded with an equalizer in the 49th minute. Reagan Klarmann sent a shot towards the upper corner of the net that was hit away by the Marist goalkeeper, but was knocked to the right foot of Stephanie Tsangaris who finished for her first goal of the season.

Fairfield's defense hung tight to keep the game even with Gena Pike picking up six saves. Pike needed four of those saves in the overtime periods, including a reflexive kick save just 30 seconds into extra time.

It is the third time in the last four matches Pike has recorded at least six saves. In those four matches, she has recorded a 0.64 goals against average and a .875 save percentage.

Marist's goalkeeper Natalie Kelchner needed 11 saves to keep the game even with the Stags out-shooting the Red Foxes 22-14. Elle Scott led all players with a career-high nine shots with six of those on goal. Scott and Klarmann combined for 15 of Fairfield's 22 shots.

The Broncs enter the match with a 2-4-1 record after dropping their first MAAC game to Siena on Saturday. Last year's All-MAAC First Team member Makenzie Rodrigues is tied for the team lead with four goals. Chloe Fisher leads the team and ranks third in the MAAC with 12 points on four goals and four assists.

Rider goalkeeper Ellie Sciancalepore leads the MAAC with 40 saves.

Fairfield will stay on Lessing Field when they host reigning MAAC Champions Siena on Wednesday night at 7pm.
