FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will open up the conference portion of their 2021 slate when they travel to Marist on Saturday at 1pm. The Stags are riding a five match unbeaten streak into the match, including a 1-0 win over Dartmouth their last time out.
Elle Scott was the lone goal scorer in Fairfield's 1-0 victory over the Big Green. The sophomore headed in a pass by
Gabby Diodati in the 14th minute and the Fairfield defense kept the lead intact. Scott's score was her third of the season, putting her in the top-10 in the MAAC.
Diodati tallied her 50th career point on her 20th career assist. This season, Diodati has recorded 12 points which is third in the MAAC.
The Fairfield defense held the previous unbeaten Dartmouth scoreless and collected their third clean sheet of the season.
Gena Pike recorded a season-high seven saves against the Big Green.
For her success, Pike was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second-straight week. Pike led the MAAC with a 0.48 goals against average and a .900 save percentage in an unbeaten week.
For the season, Pike ranks fourth in the conference with a 1.34 goals against average while leading the MAAC with two shutouts.
Marist brings a 1-2-1 record into the conference opener after defeating Fordham and earning a draw at Maine. Natalie Kelchner has played every minute in goal for the Red Foxes and leads the MAAC with a .852 save percentage while ranking fourth with a 0.94 goals against average.
The Stags will head home for their next two matches, next taking the field against Rider on Saturday at 1pm.
