Stags End Season at #4 Boston College in NCAA Championship First Round

Graham, DeVita total three points apiece

NEWTON, Mass. – Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse closed out an historic 2021 season on Friday afternoon in the NCAA Championship First Round at #4 Boston College. The Stags got three points apiece from Meaghan Graham and Diana DeVita, but the host Eagles, who have reached the National Championship Game in each of the last three NCAA tournaments, ran away with a 19-6 decision.
 
The Stags completed their third consecutive MAAC Championship campaign with a record of 13-2. Today's game marked the fifth NCAA postseason appearance in program history.
 
"We can be very proud of our effort today," said Head Coach Laura Field. "The final score is tough, but we when watch this film in a couple of weeks, we're going to see good fight and good effort for 60 minutes. While we're very proud of this season, I also know that we aren't satisfied; we want to take this experience, learn from it and make the most of the opportunity when we're able to play on this stage again."
 
"I'm incredibly proud of our seniors," Field continued. "I can't say enough about this class – three MAAC Championships and three NCAA appearances is quite the statement as to what they mean to our program."
 
Graham was Fairfield's lone multi-goal scorer and handed out one assist to complete her three-point day. DeVita scored one and distributed a pair of assists. The Stags also got markers from Maggie Fort, Libby Rowe and Kelly Horning. Horning finishes as the team leader in goals with 37, DeVita posted a team-best 22 assists and Graham led all Stags with 49 points in her final collegiate season.
 
Defensively, Horning and Reagan Bossolina each recorded a pair of cause turnovers. Bossolina also tracked down three ground balls, as did MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Maggie Reynolds. In the midfield, Horning, Rowe and Nicollette LaVista won two draw controls apiece.
 
Boston College was led by seven goals for Tewaraaton finalist Charlotte North. Jenn Medjid added six points for the Eagles with four goals and a pair of helpers.
 
Fairfield's MAAC Championship marked the sixth in program history. Laura Field has been on the sidelines for five of those titles, leading the Stags in 2018, 2019 and 2021 in addition to serving as an assistant on Head Coach Mike Waldvogel's staff in 2009 and 2015.
