Men's Basketball Announces NLI Signing Of TJ Long

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – TJ Long, a 6-4 guard from Rockville Centre, N.Y., has a signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to attend and play basketball at Fairfield University. Stags Head Men's Basketball Coach Jay Young made the announcement.

"We're excited to welcome TJ Long to the Stags family," Fairfield Head Coach Jay Young said. "He brings us an elite shooter that can play multiple positions on the floor. His toughness and IQ will be a welcomed addition to the program. Off the floor, TJ represents all the qualities we look for in our student-athletes."

Long will join the Stags after enjoying a successful basketball career at the high school and prep levels. He attended Holy Trinity High School in New York and continued his education at Canterbury School in Connecticut. He earned All-Long Island honors as one of the area's leading scorers during his senior season.

He continued his scoring success at Canterbury as illustrated by his 48-point night against national power Putman Science. He finished his season at Canterbury by averaging 18.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. He shot 48.5 percent from the floor, including 42 percent from three-point range, and 84.6 from the free throw line.

"TJ is a competitive guy who can really score the ball," Canterbury Head Coach Brian Baudinet said. "He's capable of getting very hot from the perimeter and has deep range. He's constantly improving and I expect that to continue throughout his collegiate career."

The Fairfield University men's basketball team will begin its third season under Coach Jay Young in 2021-22. Last season, Young led the Stags to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship game after the team won eight out of the 12 games prior to that title game.
