FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will open up Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play when they host the Marist Red Foxes on Saturday at 2pm at Webster Bank Arena. This will be the first time in program history that the Stags and the Red Foxes have opened up the conference slate.
The Stags ended their non-conference slate with a 91-58 setback against No. 10 Indiana in historic Assembly Hall. The Stags actually scored four of the game's first six points with two
Rachel Hakes layups but the Hoosiers would respond with a 23-0 run.
Fairfield was led by a duo of student-athletes in double figures with
Sydney Lowery leading the way with 16 points and a perfect 8-for-8 from the line.
Lou Lopez-Senechal followed Lowery with 15 points.
Janelle Brown also impressed in the showing as she led the team with five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
In total, 11 different Stags got into the scoring column including a pair with personal firsts. Mackenzie Martin swished in her first career 3-pointer and
Brooke Tatarian added a free throw for her first collegiate point.
Marist enters play with a 2-6 record with their last game coming 13 days ago. Kiara Fisher leads the reigning MAAC Champions with a 12.0 scoring average followed by Zaria Shazer's 10.8 points per game.
The Stags will be back in action on Monday night when they travel to Hamden, Conn., for a matchup against in-state rival Quinnipiac. Tip-off is at 6pm.
