Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The 2021 Fairfield University Women's Soccer season came to a close on Thursday night as the Stags were shutout against the top-seeded Monmouth Hawks by a 4-0 final score. The Stags end their season with a 9-7-4 record and their second appearance in the MAAC Semifinals in the last three seasons.
The top-seeded Hawks started the offensive pressure as they added their first goal just four minutes into the match. All-MAAC First Teamer Jill Conklin headed in a cross for the game's first shot. Monmouth would add another goal with just five minutes left in the half on a free kick that snuck under the top right corner of the net by Lauren Karabin.
The Stags were able to limit the chance overall for the Hawks in the first 45 minutes as Monmouth attempted just three shots.
The Hawks would add two more score in the second half to clinch the game.
The solid trademark defense of the Hawks stifled the Stags as Fairfield did not attempt a shot until the 61st minute.
The Stags completed their season with a 9-7-4 record which included several dramatic moments. Despite not touching net against the Hawks, Fairfield scored 19 goals in the second halves this season, including seven in the final 10 minutes.
Fairfield added four All-MAAC players with their leading scorers
Gabby Diodati and
Elle Scott named to the All-MAAC First Team. The duo tied for the team lead with seven goals this season.
Diodati's seven scores was a career-high and she completes her Fairfield career with 16 goals and 21 career assists for 53 points. Her 21 helpers places her sixth on the program's all-time list.
Scott led the MAAC in shots per game and tallied the first three shots for the Stags in the match, including their closest opportunity with a strike off the crossbar in the second half.
