FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will head to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., to take part in the MAAC/ASUN Challenge and competing against Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast this weekend. Fairfield opens up play on Friday afternoon taking on Stetson at 1:30pm and caps their stay with a contest against Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday at noon.
The Stags will be playing in their first game in five days after going toe-to-toe with Rutgers, falling 48-42 on the road. Fairfield trailed by just one in the final minute after
Sydney Lowery's driving layup capped a 6-0 run. The Scarlet Knights, a team that received 17 votes in the Preseason Top-25, fired back with a 7-0 run in the next 46 seconds to clinch the victory.
For the second straight game,
Callie Cavanaugh was the team's leading scorer as she finished with 15. Over her last six contests, Cavanaugh is averaging 13.5 points while shooting 50 percent.
The Stags forced 18 turnovers with six steals in their game against Rutgers.
This will be Fairfield's first game against a member of the ASUN Conference. The Stags played Stetson once in program history, coming in the 1983-84 season when they were Independent.
Florida Gulf Coast will be Fairfield's opponent on Saturday. The Eagles enter the week after receiving 56 votes in the National Top-25 rankings.
