FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The first and only stretch of three straight true road matches for Fairfield University Volleyball begins this weekend with a trip to New Jersey to wrap-up the regular season series with MAAC foes Saint Peter's and Rider. First serves on Saturday in Jersey City and Sunday in Lawrenceville are both set for 1 p.m.
Â
The Stags enter the weekend at 10-6 overall and riding a six-match winning streak. That run includes a 5-0 start to MAAC play with all five wins coming by way of a 3-0 sweep, including straight-set victories over the Broncs and Peacocks on Sept. 18-19 at the RecPlex.
Â
Excluding the truncated spring 2021 campaign, this weekend's ledger marks the first time that the Stags will wrap-up a home-and-home series this early in the MAAC slate since 2014, when Fairfield tangled with Marist twice within the first six matches of the league campaign.
Â
Saint Peter's enters the weekend at 1-15 overall and 0-6 in the league, but the Peacocks are coming off of their most competitive conference run to date. In last Saturday's 3-1 loss to Marist, three of the four sets were decided by a 26-24 tally, including a 23-20 lead for SPU in the fourth set, on the brink of pushing the contest to a deciding fifth frame. The following day against Siena, the Peacocks were again on the short side of a 26-24 stanza as a part of a 3-1 setback.
Â
Rider has run off six straight wins since opening MAAC play with a loss at Fairfield, improving to an even 8-8 on the year and 6-1 in the MAAC. The Broncs most recently survived a five-setter against Marist on Sunday followed by a decisive sweep at Manhattan on Wednesday evening. Rider will host Quinnipiac (4-12, 3-4) on Saturday before the Stags come to town on Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Stags' three-match road stretch concludes next Wednesday, Oct. 13 at Siena. Following that midweek clash, the Stags play six of their next seven in the Nutmeg State, beginning with an Oct. 16-17 series at the RecPlex against Manhattan and Iona.
