Stags Celebrate Senior Day on Saturday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will celebrate the nine member senior class in the program's Senior Day before their 12pm match against Canisius. The Class of 2022 have helped the Stags to 26 victories and a spot in the MAAC Championship Finals in 2019.

Brooke Hernon, Aytana Muschajew, Stephanie Tsangaris, Lexi Lehan, Hanley Courter, Ally Filipkowski, Amy Akerley, Jenn Bonifazio, and Erika Breitfeller will be honored in the pregame ceremony, remembering their hard work and dedication to the program. Collectively, the group has scored 26 goals with nine game-winners. They have also dished out 19 assists while recording 11 wins and 109 saves in goal.

As a team, the Stags enter play sixth in the MAAC standings as they have collected seven points with a 2-2-1 record in the MAAC. Fairfield is coming off a hard-fought 1-0 double overtime loss to Monmouth in a memorable defensive effort.

Sophomore goalkeeper Juliette Grasso was the anchor of that defensive effort as she tied a program single game record with 14 saves in her collegiate debut. The 14 stops is tied for the most in the MAAC this season and 15th nationally.

Grasso started her career day with a diving stop to her right in the third minute and also made a highlight reel double save in the 77th minute.

The only setback for Grasso came in the opening minute of the second overtime when Monmouth's Olivia Ramiz gained a rebound from an initial blocked shot and blasted an attempt that deflected off a defender and into the back of the net.

The Griffs are looking for their first victory in conference play, most recently a 3-1 setback against Siena. Tiani Fonoti and Jen Romero enter the match tied for the team lead in goals.

The Stags will hit the road for a two game set, first traveling to Manhattan on Wednesday, October 13 at 3pm.
