FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will look to continue their unbeaten home record when they host the Monmouth Hawks on Wednesday night at Lessing Field. The match will also be the program's "Red Out" as the first 250 students will receive a Fairfield scarf. The Stags and the Hawks both enter the match in the top-3 in the MAAC standings, with Monmouth leading the pack with an unbeaten 3-0-1 conference mark.
The Stags are coming off their first loss in nearly five weeks as they fell to the Niagara Purple Eagles, 3-2 on the road.
Elle Scott and
Maddie Kiely were the goal scorers for the Stags, who had to fight back from a two goal deficit twice.
Scott netted the first goal for the Stags just four minutes into the second half as she recovered a rebounded shot to blast the second attempt past the keeper. Kiely also put the Stags back in the game late as she took a pass from
Reagan Klarmann and hit it past the keeper with just nine minutes left in regulation.
Fairfield had a few chances to find the equalizer late in the contest, with none closer than
Lexi Lehan's header that went off the crossbar. The final effort for the Stags came on a corner kick with 20 seconds remaining, but the service was cleared away in the final seconds.
Scott's goal was her sixth of the season, tying her four fourth in the MAAC. She was the only MAAC student-athlete to score in two contests this past week, helping her earn the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week award. Her three goal week was highlighted by a pair of scores in the win over reigning MAAC Champions Siena.
Scott was one of two Stags to earn weekly honors from the MAAC as Klarmann was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week after her strong play. Klarmann tallied the game-winner in the exciting victory over the Saints, launching the go-ahead strike with just 90 seconds left in regulation.
The Hawks enter as the MAAC's only unbeaten team in conference play with a 3-0-1 record after their 1-0 victory over Saint Peter's. Seven different Hawks have recorded at least one goal with Lauren Karabin leading the team with five goals.
The Stags will be back in action on Saturday afternoon and celebrate Senior Day in their matchup against Canisius at 12pm.
