FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Following up on a stretch of six matches in 12 days, Fairfield University Volleyball plays its only match in a 12 days this Saturday with a visit to Quinnipiac. First serve on Burt Kahn Court in Hamden is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Â
The Stags went 5-1 on the aforementioned stretch, extending their winning streak to 13 matches before more recently dropping a five-set decision to Canisius this past Sunday. Fairfield enters the weekend in first place in the MAAC at 12-1 in league play as a part of a 17-7 overall mark.
Â
Quinnipiac is 8-14 on the season and 7-6 in the MAAC. The Bobcats have won three straight and four of their last five contests, including a sweep of visiting Canisius and Niagara this past weekend by a pair of 3-1 scores.
Â
In the season's first meeting between the Stags and Bobcats on Oct. 2 at the RecPlex, Fairfield put together a decisive sweep by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-18. The Stags hit .306 in the match, led by 43 assists, 13 digs, five blocks and an ace for
Manuela Nicolini.
Â
A pair of outside hitters were Nicolini's top targets on that day, led by 19 kills on .395 hitting from
KJ Johnson and 11 kills from
Mikayla Haut swinging at a .346 percentage.
Â
Aryanah Diaz led Quinnipiac with 13 kills and 10 digs. Chloe Ka'Ahanui and Nicole Migliozzi shared setting duties and finished with 14 and 9 assists, respectively.
Â
With five matches remaining on the MAAC regular season slate, the Stags would need to post a 3-2 record in those outings to guarantee the top seed in the upcoming MAAC Championship. Those details may change pending other results around the conference, most notably in Saturday's match featuring second-place Rider (9-3) traveling to third-place Marist (9-4).
Â
Up next, the Stags wrap up the home schedule on Nov. 6-7 with visits from Siena and Marist. Fairfield will celebrate Senior Day prior to Sunday's meeting with the Red Foxes.
