Stags Stop Sacred Heart, 5-2, in First Dual of the Season

Fairfield wraps up the fall in two weeks at Yale

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Tennis played its first dual match of the fall on Saturday afternoon, taking a 5-2 decision from Sacred Heart on the Walsh Athletic Center Courts. The Stags swept the doubles point and won four singles matches against their crosstown foes.

"SHU came out and played us tough We were shorthanded, so it was nice to see everyone pitch in and pick up the win," said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "Overall, I'm pleased with where we are this fall and looking forward to closing out the fall strong at Yale in a couple of weeks."

In doubles action, the Stags claimed the point courtesy of wins for Sam Hodges and Charlie Morkel in the top spot, Jonathan Olive-Blanco and Keean Shah in the second position, and Will O'Brien and Andrew Immink at number three.

Morkel also played atop the singles lineup and picked up a straight-set victory over the Pioneers' William Wibmer. Griffin Schlesinger added a convincing win at #4 and Stefan Mitrovic was victorious at #5. To cap the effort, Immink won a three-set marathon in the #6 slot by scores of 6-7 (4), 6-4 and 1-0 (9).

The fall slate concludes for the Stags at the Yale Invitational beginning Nov. 5 at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven.
