Stags Host Manhattan, Iona This Weekend at the RecPlex

First serve on both Saturday and Sunday is set for 1 p.m.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Volleyball reaches the midway point of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule this weekend when league foes Manhattan and Iona visit the RecPlex during Alumni & Family Weekend. First serve on both Saturday and Sunday is slated for 1 p.m.

Fans who plan to attend this weekend's action are reminded that masks are required – regardless of vaccination status – when indoors anywhere on campus.

The Stags enter the weekend riding a nine-match winning streak to improve to 13-6 overall and 8-0 in the MAAC. Fairfield holds a two-match cushion over second-place Rider (8-2) and owns the tiebreaker over the Broncs after sweeping the season series from the defending conference champs. Every other MAAC team has been dealt at least three league losses.

Fairfield returns to the RecPlex after sweeping a three-match road swing at Saint Peter's, Rider and Siena – the latest in a run of eight consecutive 3-0 victories against conference foes. The Stags are hitting .300 against MAAC teams and limiting league opponents to a .122 clip – both conference-bests during the league portion of the slate. Fairfield also leads the MAAC in kills (15.37/set), assists (14.15/set) and blocks (3.00) while ranking second in digs (18.15/set) in conference matches.

Manhattan is 1-10 overall and 1-6 in the MAAC. The Jaspers have lost three straight matches to Canisius, Rider and Iona since topping Niagara on Oct. 2 for their lone win of the campaign. Fairfield has won 13 straight against Manhattan – the longest winning streak in the all-time series – and holds a 50-7 advantage over the Jaspers since 1989.

Iona, which visits Quinnipiac before coming to the RecPlex on Sunday, starts the weekend at 6-10 on the season and 4-4 in the MAAC. The Gaels' conference wins have come over Niagara, Saint Peter's, and two victories over Manhattan, with losses coming courtesy of Rider, Siena, Marist and Canisius. Fairfield has won four straight over Iona since the Gaels eliminated the Stags from the 2018 MAAC Championship en route to the conference crown. Overall, Fairfield owns a 42-13 lead in the all-time series.

This weekend's matches start a run in which the Stags will play six of their next seven contests in the state of Connecticut. Up next is the only venture across state lines during that span for a Thursday, Oct. 21 visit to Marist. Fairfield will also host Niagara, Canisius, Siena and Marist as a part of the in-state residency in addition to an Oct. 30 trip to Quinnipiac.
