Sweep at Siena Caps Perfect MAAC Road Swing

The Stags move to 8-0 in the conference with their ninth straight win

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Fairfield University Volleyball rolled to a 3-0 sweep at Siena on Wednesday evening, picking up their third MAAC road win in five days to complete the longest away swing of the conference season. In total, the Stags reeled off their ninth straight win to move to 8-0 in the MAAC and 13-6 overall.

KJ Johnson led the attack with another outstanding performance from the outside, slamming home 13 kills on .414 hitting. Laura Seeger and reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week Mikayla Haut each chipped in eight kills from the pins.

Rounding out the attack, Luci Albertson and Ella Gardiner each delivered three kills and Emily Schillinger posted two. The offense was run at a .375 clip by Manuela Nicolini, who doled out 31 assists while going over on two for a trio of kills.

Three days after racking up 18 blocks in a sweep at Rider, the Stags were strong at the net once again. Schillinger, who had 11 of those blocks against the Broncs, was a part of seven rejections tonight including four solo blocks. Johnson added three send-backs while Nicolini and Albertson each stifled the Saints once.

In the back row, Kyla Berg led all players with 14 digs, while Johnson and Nicolini both neared a double-double with eight apiece. Georgia Via added seven digs.

To cap the scoring, Albertson served up two of Fairfield's six aces with one winner each from the end line coming from Berg, Via, Morgan Doll and Maddy Jerdonek.

At 8-0 in the MAAC, the Stags hold a two-match lead over Rider (7-2), from whom Fairfield has already swept the season series. Every other conference team has been dealt three or more MAAC losses.

Up next, the Stags will play six of their next seven matches in the Nutmeg State, beginning with an Oct. 16-17 series at the RecPlex against Manhattan and Iona. First serve on both Saturday and Sunday is slated for 1 p.m. Fans who plan to attend are reminded that masks are required – regardless of vaccination status – within all indoor facilities on campus.
