FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse plays the second of back-to-back road games this Tuesday, March 10, at Siena. Opening faceoff in Loudonville is set for 3 p.m. The Stags (4-2) are eying their first road victory of the campaign.
Fairfield has been paced through six games by
Dylan Beckwith – CAA's leading scorer (5.67 ppg) – with 20 goals and 14 assists. Beckwith, who also ranks ninth nationally in points per game, shares the CAA lead in goals per game (3.33) and rates third in assists per game (2.33).
Taylor Strough also owns a piece of the CAA lead in goals with his 20 strikes through six contests.
Brian Reda is Fairfield's top facilitator with 18 assists, slotting second in the CAA and seventh in the nation at 3.00 helpers per game.
Last Time Out
Fairfield found itself in a familiar position, trailing host Harvard by a 9-4 count at halftime of Saturday's non-league matchup in Cambridge. However, despite the makings of another rally with three quick scores to start the second half, the Crimson had an answer with a 3-0 spurt of their own, then held off the Stags to claim the 15-12 decision.
Dylan Beckwith maintained his place as the CAA's leading scorer with two goals and two assists for the Stags.
Taylor Strough netted a hat trick while
Patrick Drake also had a three-point day with two goals – including a man-up marker – and an assist.
Bryce Ford added two goals with
Travis Ford,
Charlie Curran and
Dean Ford netting one apiece.
In the midfield,
Frankie Labetti went 15-for-30 at the faceoff X with six ground balls as the Crimson held a slim 17-15 advantage on the dot.
Jake Tymon collected three ground balls, and
Lucas Pedersen and
Cole Barnard each added two.
The defense was fortified by
James Corasaniti in the cage. The sophomore made 16 saves and also notched a caused turnover.
Scouting Siena
Following a 16-9 loss at St. John's on Saturday, Siena is 2-3 on the campaign. The Saints' victories have come over LIU and NJIT with losses against Hobart, UMass Lowell and the Red Storm. Siena went 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the MAAC last spring.
The Saints' attack is led by the by the MAAC's top scorer in Jack Kiernan with team highs in goals (13), assists (11) and total points (24). 2019 All-MAAC First Team midfielder Dylan Pantalone added 10 goals and five helpers to the effort.
Jason Zou is the primary faceoff man for Siena at .447 (38-85) with 14 ground balls. Brandon Meir has spelled him to the tune of a .477 clip (21-44) with 11 ground balls. Overall, the Saints post a .453 win percentage on the draw (68-150).
All five starts in the cage have gone to Anthony Tebbano, who owns a .488 save percentage (64 goals, 61 saves) and a 14.22 goals-against average. The defense in front of Tebbano is headed by Jack Drillock with 12 caused turnovers and 14 ground balls.
All-Time Series
The Stags' 21-15 win over Siena last season in the highest-scoring game in Rafferty Stadium history ran the all-time series to 7-1 in favor of Fairfield. The Saints won the inaugural meeting in Fairfield's first varsity season of 1993. The 2019 clash was the first since 1999, which was the Stags final campaign in the MAAC.
