CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse found itself in a familiar position, trailing host Harvard by a 9-4 count at halftime of Saturday's non-league matchup in Cambridge. However, despite the makings of another rally with three quick scores to start the second half, the Crimson had an answer with a 3-0 spurt of their own, then held off the Stags to claim the 15-12 decision.
The loss drops the Stags to 4-2 on the season, while Harvard improves to 2-2.
Dylan Beckwith maintained his place as the CAA's leading scorer with two goals and two assists for the Stags. Beckwith has amassed 34 points through six games with 20 goals and 14 assists.
Taylor Strough shares the conference and CAA lead in goals with Beckwith after netting a hat trick today to run his season total to 20.
Patrick Drake also had a three-point day with two goals – including a man-up marker – and an assist.
Bryce Ford added two goals with
Travis Ford,
Charlie Curran and
Dean Ford netting one apiece.
A pair of assists for
Brian Reda improved his league-leading total to 18 helpers.
Travis Ford also had an assist to round out the Fairfield attack.
In the midfield,
Frankie Labetti went 15-for-30 at the faceoff X with six ground balls as the Crimson held a slim 17-15 advantage on the dot.
Jake Tymon collected three ground balls, and
Lucas Pedersen and
Cole Barnard each added two.
The defense was fortified by
James Corasaniti in the cage. The sophomore made 16 saves, turning away more than half of the opposition's shots on target for the first time this spring. Corasaniti also notched a caused turnover, as did Tymon and Strough as a part of the 17 turnovers committed by Harvard against the Fairfield defense.
Harvard was led offensively by three goals and two assists for Austin Madronis. Nick Loring also potted a hat trick for the Crimson, and Kyle Mullin made 14 saves to earn the win in the cage.
A quick turnaround sends the Stags to Loudonville, N.Y. on Tuesday, March 10 for a 3 p.m. faceoff at Siena. The Saints are 2-3 on the season following a 16-9 loss today at St. John's.
Action returns to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on the following Tuesday, March 17, with a 7 p.m. visit from Providence.
