JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --
Amanda Ulzheimer reached base three times in four plate appearances including a pair of hits but the Fairfield University softball team could not overcome a four-run third inning as the University of North Florida registered a 6-3 win this evening.
The Ospreys opened the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the third inning, the first of which was manufactured by Elaina Lukas. She opened the inning with a single, stole second, tagged up on a fly ball, and came home a sacrifice fly. A pair of walks set up the final three runs when Paige Pfent launched a three-run home run to push the score to 4-0.
The Stags scored all of their runs in a bunch, sending home three runners in the top of the fourth inning.
Sam Merino started the inning with a single and went to second after a fielding error placed
Drew Westford at first base.
Kaitlin Hoffman stroked a single to load the bases, setting up
Mikayla Rubin's RBI base on balls. The next two runners scored after
Tahlia Brown sent a pitch into center field for a two-run single, bringing the Stags within a run at 4-3.
North Florida put two more runs on the board, scoring once in the fourth when Kayla McGory ripped a home run to left center field and another time in the sixth inning following doubles from Lukas and Rebecca Koskey.
Katie Kudlacik pitched the first two-plus innings before yielding to
Lauryn Rhinehart for the final three-plus innings. Both pitchers struck out one hitter while Kudlacik surrendered three of North Florida's seven hits.
Fairfield will finish its Southern trip with a stint at the Mercer Invitational this weekend. The Stags will play five games against Florida A&M, Western Carolina and the host school.
