Stags Travel to Manhattan for Final Road Contest

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will embark on their final road game of the 2019-20 season when they head to Riverdale, N.Y., to face the Manhattan Jaspers. The Stags will be looking to clinch a winning season in the conference with tip-off on Saturday at 2pm.

The Stags are coming off their second-straight loss, but both opponents are tied atop the MAAC standings. Fairfield most recently dropped a 68-60 contest against Rider as their comeback bid fell short. The Stags faced their biggest deficit at 18 points just nine minutes into the game as Rider jumped out to a 22-4 lead. Fairfield erased that advantage in just eight minutes when Lou Lopez-Senechal hit a jumper to give the Stags the lead with three minutes left in the first half.

Fairfield actually scored 25 points in the second quarter with Lopez-Senechal and Katie Armstrong combining for 23. Lopez-Senechal gave the Stags their final lead of the game as her bucket with 14 seconds left in the third quarter put Fairfield back on top. However, Rider was able to drain a 3-pointer with just two seconds left and extended their lead in the fourth quarter.

Lopez-Senechal led the Stags with 26 points and is now averaging 22.3 points and shooting 52 percent from long range in the last three games.

Andrea Hernangomez showed toughness on the boards leading the Stags in rebounds in her third-straight appearance. She is averaging 11.0 rebounds during that stretch.

The Jaspers swept their Western New York swing for the first time under Head Coach Heather Vulin. The Jaspers tallied 75 points in their most recent win over Niagara, marking the second time in the last four games they have reached that number.

The reigning MAAC Player of the Week, Courtney Warley leads the team with 8.8 rebounds per game. Freshman Emily LaPointe leads the team in scoring at 12.0 points per game and 3-pointers (51).

Fairfield will next open up the final homestand ever at Alumni Hall, starting with a meeting against Siena on Thursday, March 5 at 7pm.
