Hofstra Pulls Away from Stags in 17-13 Contest

Three Stags net hat tricks in the road loss

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Despite hat tricks from three players, Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse was unable to overcome an early deficit in a 17-13 loss at Hofstra on Saturday on Long Island. Cameryn Dera, Kelly Horning and Monika Sivilli each netted three goals for the Stags against the CAA foe.

Dera's hat trick was her first as a Stag as well as her first career three-goal game. Sivilli netted three goals for the second straight game, running her team-best total to nine goals on the year. Horning, who also racked up her second consecutive hat trick, added an assist on the day for her fifth career four-point outing.

Meaghan Graham added two goals for the Stags with single tallies coming from Diana DeVita and Maggie Fort.  Jillian Winwood dished out two assists and DeVita notched her team-leading eighth helper of 2020 to round out the day's scoring.

On the other end of the field, Maggie Reynolds spearheaded the effort with five ground balls and a team-high three draw controls. Horning scooped up four ground balls to go along with a pair of caused turnovers. Kennedy Slater and Hailey Durkin also each created a pair of Hofstra turnovers.

In the cage, Olivia Conquest made a career-high 16 saves to move into seventh on Fairfield's all-time list with 223 stops in her career.

Fairfield (1-3) ceded the game's first five goals and never pulled even with the host Pride. Hofstra (3-1) was led by five goals from Grace Langella and a hat trick by All-American and reigning CAA Player of the Year Alyssa Parrella.

The Stags are back on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on Wednesday, Feb. 26 to host Boston University at 3 p.m. The Terriers dropped a 16-8 outing at Dartmouth this afternoon to level their record at 2-2 on the year.
