Stags Look to Bounce Back at Saint Peter’s

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will look to bounce back after a tough defeat when they travel to Jersey City, N.J., to take on the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Tuesday at 7pm. This will be Fairfield's sixth road game in their last eight outings.

The Stags are coming off their first conference home loss of the season as they fell 59-52 against Iona. The Stags had an uncharacteristic struggle taking care of the basketball in the setback to Iona, committing 19 turnovers on a season low tying eight assists.

Fairfield also struggled in perimeter defense as Iona connected on 12 3-pointers, the most by a Fairfield opponent this season. The Gaels shot an incredible 6-for-7 from behind the arc in the second quarter as they grabbed a lead they would not give up. For the game, Iona shot 53 percent from behind the arc.

Katie Armstrong and Callie Cavanaugh tied for the team lead with 13 points with Cavanaugh recording her first double-double as a Stag and the third of her career. Eight of Cavanaugh's season-high 10 rebounds were from the offensive glass.

Armstrong continued her hot shooting with a 4-for-8 showing from the field and a 2-for-3 clip from deep. Over her last four games, Armstrong is averaging 20.3 points with a 59 percent shooting clip from long range.

Saint Peter's enters the game coming off a 67-58 victory over Canisius on Saturday. The win has highlighted an impressive five game stretch for the Peacocks, who while 2-3 during that stretch have dropped each of those contests by just three points.

Taiah Thornton is coming off a 30-point performance against Canisius as she shot 50 percent (12-for-24) from the field. The Peacocks defense has also improved during the last five games, holding three teams to under 60 points including in their victory over then MAAC unbeaten Rider.

The Stags will return home to face in-state rival and three-time MAAC Champions Quinnipiac on Saturday at 2pm.
