Stags Stopped at UConn, 19-12

DeVita racks up five points for the Stags

STORRS, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse hit the road for the first time in 2020 on Wednesday, making the short trip up to UConn to challenge the host Huskies. The Stags got a five-point day from Diana DeVita and two goals apiece from Kelly Horning and Meaghan Graham, but UConn came away with the decision by a score of 19-12.
 
With the loss, the Stags fall to 0-2 on the year. The Huskies avenge last season's 13-7 Fairfield win at Rafferty Stadium to open their 2020 campaign at 1-0.
 
DeVita's five-point performance – three goals and two assists – matches her career high established last season against UConn. In her career, the junior has totaled 14 points in three career meetings with th Huskies.
 
In addition to multi-goal outings from DeVita, Graham and Horning, five Stags netted one marker apiece: Maggie Fort, Monika Sivilli, Jillian Winwood, Elizabeth Rowe and Cameryn Dera. Fort, Horning and Sivilli each added an assist to the scoring effort.
 
Fort was all over the field for the Stags, adding to her goal and assist with team highs of four draw controls and three caused turnovers. The rookie midfielder also scooped up two of the Stags' 14 ground balls. Horning and Maggie Reynolds – the reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week – added two caused turnovers apiece for the Fairfield defense.
 
Olivia Conquest got the start in the cage and made 12 saves. Casey Collins finished the effort and stopped one shot in her collegiate debut.
 
The Huskies top two scorers from last spring keyed the attack for the hosts today as Sydney Watson netted six goals and Olivia Miles poured in four. Watson also pulled down eight draw controls to help keep the UConn offense on the field.
 
Up next, action returns to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on Wednesday, Feb. 19, when the Stags host Columbia at 3 p.m.
