FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will play their fifth road game in their last six outings when they travel to Monmouth for a matchup against the Hawks on Thursday night at 7pm. The Stags are coming off their longest road trip of the season as they split the two games in their Western New York swing.
Katie Armstrong and
Lou Lopez-Senechal enjoyed the Buffalo, N.Y., atmosphere as both Stags tallied double-digit performances on the trip. Armstrong led the Stags by averaging 23 points per game while shooting 66 percent from the floor (19-for-29) and an incredible 78 percent (7-for-9) from behind the 3-point arc. Armstrong was at the forefront of Fairfield's comeback attempt against Canisius as she tallied 12 fourth quarter points in helping the Stags cut the deficit to as little as five in the final minute.
Lou Lopez-Senechal recorded her first double-double of the season in the loss at Canisius as she netted 22 points and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds. The sophomore score just one fewer point than Armstrong as she combined for 45 points during the weekend. Lopez-Senechal shot and even 50 percent from the field and 64 percent (7-for-11) from deep. She has now reached double figures in 11-straight games.
Sam Kramer reached 250 career assists on the Western New York trip, dishing out the milestone in Fairfield's victory over Niagara on Thursday. She followed that performance up by tying a career-high with eight assists against Canisius. Kramer was honored with the Hartford HealthCare Courage award in a special ceremony on campus on Wednesday morning for showing perseverance through a personal tragedy in December of 2018.
The Hawks enter play after winning back-to-back games against Saint Peter's and Iona. Monmouth trailed by five with less than two minutes to play in their last game, before rallying to score the final 12 points of the game for a 56-50 victory over Iona.
Sierra Green is the team's leading scorer with 10.3 points per game and a team-high 50 3-pointers made. Alexa Middleton controls the post with 8.1 rebounds per contest. Middleton ranks second all-time in Monmouth history in career rebounds.
The Stags will head home for a quick stop on the George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall when they host their Play 4 Kay contest against Iona on Saturday at 2pm.
