Men's Basketball Completes Non-Conference Schedule

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Head Men's Basketball Coach Jay Young announced the Stags' 2020-21 non-conference basketball schedule. The Stags will have a 25-game regular season slate in 2020-21 when the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) portion of the ledger is released.

"It has certainly been a challenge to put together a non-conference schedule this year," Coach Young said. "Obviously, the health and safety of our student athletes was of paramount concern when formulating our non-conference schedule.  We felt a regional schedule, with limited travel, would be the most prudent way to protect us all.  I am looking forward to a very challenging slate of non-conference games that will prepare us well for MAAC play."

The Stags will open the 2020-21 campaign by traveling to Providence College for a match up with the Friars on November 25. This game will mark the first meeting between the Stags and the Friars since the 2013-14 season when Providence posted a 78-69 win at home. Fairfield had two players score in double figures that game with Marcus Gilbert netting a game-high 23 points and Maurice Barrow adding 20 points to the cause.

Fairfield will play a pair of road games back-to-back as part of a multiple-team event that sends the team to Stony Brook University on November 28 before finishing the stretch at Sacred Heart University on November 29. The Seawolves and the Stags will meet for the first time this year. The Pioneers return to the schedule after a three-year break, last playing during the 2016-17 season when the Stags registered an 85-63 victory.

The University of Hartford will be the opponent for Fairfield's home opener when the two teams get together at Alumni Hall on December 2. The two teams resume the series after a six-year hiatus last meeting during the Coaches vs. Cancer Invitational during the 2013-14 season. The Hawks stopped a three-game losing streak against the Stags with a 65-55 decision, a streak which included Fairfield wins in 1994-95, 1995-96, and 1997-98 (Phoenix Classic).

The final non-conference game of the season sends Coach Young and his team to Virginia for a December 22 contest with William & Mary. The two programs will face each other for the second time in as many years with the Tribe posting a 62-58 victory at Alumni Hall last season. This will be the fifth meeting between these two teams.

As determined by the MAAC Basketball Working Group, there will be no spectators in attendance at any game hosted by a MAAC member prior to Dec. 23. At that time, both the MAAC and Fairfield University will reassess this policy in conjunction with local, state, federal and institutional guidelines. Fans will be able to watch all Fairfield University home games -- as well as every road conference game -- on the ESPN family of networks.
