Stags Travel to Penn, Host LIU This Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will wrap-up their season long four-game road trip on Friday night when they travel to Penn to take on the Quakers at 7pm. The Stags will then have a quick turnaround and play in their first home match in two weeks when they host the LIU Sharks on Sunday at 3pm.

The Stags will enter this weekend with an even 2-2 record after alternating wins over their first four contests. After dominating Wagner 4-0 on Friday, the Stags experienced a setback with a 5-1 defeat at Yale on Sunday.

All five goals scored over the weekend came from five different student-athletes. Gabby Diodati was one of the standouts in the victory over Wagner as the junior collected a goal and an assist in the 4-0 win. The Stags also saw the first collegiate goals in the careers of Nicole Stryjek and freshman Brooke Jones in that victory. Julia McGuire was the other Stag to touch the back of the net with a right-footed strike in the first half. The Stags' first six goals of the season have been scored by six different student-athletes.

Penn opened up a three-game homestand with a 2-0 victory over Towson, bringing their 2019 record to 1-1. The Quakers were picked second in the Ivy League Coaches Poll and return two All-Conference First Team selections in Emily Sands and Kitty Qu.

Penn won a share of the Ivy League Regular Season title last season after the best defensive performance in school history, surrendering just five goals all season and leading the country in save percentage, goals against average, and shutouts.

The LIU Sharks are still looking for their first win as the new Long Island University. The Sharks are in the middle of a five-game road trip to begin their season and has fallen to: Army, San Diego, and San Diego State. LIU was picked to finish eighth in the NEC Preseason Poll.

After playing four games in two weeks, the Stags will have a little breather with only one match on the upcoming week's slate. Fairfield will host Bryant at Lessing Field on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7pm.
