Four Stags Reach Double-Digit Kills in Four-Set Win at Siena

Garcia leads the way with 13 kills and 19 digs

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Fairfield University Volleyball completed a 2-0 road weekend to open the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) portion of the schedule with Sunday's 3-1 victory at Siena. Mayda Garcia led four Stags to reach double-digit kills with 13 finishers to go along with a team-high 19 digs.

Fairfield, which swept at Marist to open conference play on Friday, improves to 2-0 in the MAAC and 7-4 overall following its fifth consecutive win. Siena falls to 5-6 on the season and 1-1 in the MAAC. The Saints topped visiting Quinnipiac on Saturday to begin their 18-match conference slate.

With 13 kills and 19 digs, Garcia completed her first double-double of the season. Julia Kallen notched her second of the fall with 10 kills and 11 digs. Joelle Battles had 11 kills on .300 hitting, and Kaylie Butts was the fourth Stag in double digits with 10 kills from the middle.

Luci Albertson added an efficient seven kills in the middle, swinging at a .545 clip. For the season, Albertson ranks second in the MAAC with a team-best .336 hitting percentage.

Rounding out the Fairfield attack was Laura Seeger with three kills, while Manuela Nicolini dumped over two from the setter spot and Morgan Doll landed one as the Stags' libero. Nicolini managed the offense to a .208 hitting percentage, distributing 41 assists.

To cap the scoring, Garcia and Doll each served up a pair of aces, with Nicolini and Albertson both responsible for one winner.

On the defensive side, Garcia's 19 digs were followed by 17 from Doll and Kallen's 11. Nicolini was just short of a double-double with nine digs, and the duo of Albertson and Maddy Jerdonek each recorded six. At the net, Butts was a part of four Fairfield blocks to finish the day leading the MAAC with an even one block per set. Nicolini added a hand in three of the Stags' eight rejections. As a unit, the Fairfield defense stifled Siena to the tune of a .086 hitting percentage.

The Saints were led by 10 kills apiece from Ally-Reese Williams and Nicole Deobler. Maria Llinas dished out 35 assists for Siena, and Sol Guidarelli led all players with 22 digs.

Up next, MAAC action comes to George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall for the first time in 2019 as the Stags host in-state conference foe Quinnipiac on Saturday, Sept. 28. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
