EDISON, N.J. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced this week that Fairfield University Swimming and Diving alumna
Oreoluwa Cherebin '19 was one of two recipients of the Bob McCloskey Insurance MAAC Postgraduate Scholar-Athlete Scholarship.
Cherebin graduated in May 2019 from Fairfield, where she studied Chemistry and was a three-year member of the women's swimming and diving team. The Grenada native represented her home country at the 2016 Olympics in Rio and the World Swimming Championships in 2013, 2015 and 2017.
"I am very honored to receive this scholarship," said Cherebin. "Making the adjustment from Fairfield to my graduate program has not been easy. This scholarship will definitely help me settle in quicker and allow me to completely focus on school. I'm grateful to the MAAC for this scholarship and I miss every second of competing as a Stag."
In addition to her athletic achievements, Cherebin was involved on campus as a Resident Assistant and a member of the Black Student Union. She was a MAAC All-Academic Team member and a Dean's List student.
"Ore is an incredible student-athlete and someone that made the most of her college experience," said Fairfield Swimming and Diving Head Coach
Anthony Bruno. "Ore not only helped lead our team to two MAAC championships, but she was an active leader on campus as an RA and involved heavily in student life. Ore represented her home country of Grenada at the highest level including the Olympic Games. We are going to miss her presence on the deck each day and I am glad to see everything she has given to the program and MAAC is being recognized. She is a great representative of how to do it the right way."
Cherebin begins her postgraduate study at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) with a major in Chemistry.
