Stags Open Conference Play By Hosting Niagara

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will turn their attention to the most important part of their 2019 schedule when they open up Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play by hosting Niagara on Saturday at noon. This will be the first of five home conference matches, with their next meeting on Lessing Field coming on October 9 against Manhattan.
 
The Stags went 3-3-2 during the non-conference portion of their schedule, finishing with a 5-0 loss to Brown on Wednesday. Nicole Stryjek and Stephanie Tsangaris led the Stags with eight points apiece during non-league play, tying them for sixth in the conference. Stryjek's four goals leads the team which ties her for fourth in the MAAC.
 
Gabby Diodati led the team with three assists over the first eight games and is just one helper shy from the conference lead.
 
On the defensive side, freshman goalkeeper Gena Pike logged the first 421 minutes of her collegiate career while recording three victories and tallying 24 saves.
 
With 14 goals scored through eight matches, the Stags lead the conference with 1.75 goals per game while only being shutout twice this season.
 
Niagara finished their non-conference slate with a 4-2-1 record with a four-game unbeaten streak snapped in their last time out at Buffalo. The reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year Annie Ibey has continued her collegiate success as she leads the team with four goals and nine points.
 
Goalkeeper Sabrina Locas is one of four MAAC goalkeepers to have a goals against average under 1.00 as she has surrendered just 0.67 goals per game. She has also recorded 35 saves, placing fifth in the MAAC.
 
The Stags will embark on their first conference road trip next week as they travel to Saint Peter's on Wednesday at 4pm.
