Stags Hit The Road For Two Games This Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will hit the road for a pair of contests this weekend as they travel to Wagner to face the Seahawks on Friday at 7pm and will also head to Yale for a Sunday afternoon match at 5pm. The two road matches are a part of a season-long four game road trip for the Stags, who will conclude the stretch with a match at Penn next week.

The Stags evened their record at 1-1 after falling to UConn on the road on Sunday. Fairfield went toe-to-toe with the Huskies for the first hour of game play before surrendering two second half goals for the 3-0 decision. Fairfield had nearly knotted the score in the 60th minute when Ally Filipkowski sent two shots near the goal, with one of them requiring a team save. The Stags had actually out-shot the Huskies up until that point and held UConn to just three shots in the first half.

Fairfield will be playing their ninth match all-time against Wagner, holding a 7-1 mark in the series which also featured a 4-1 win at Lessing Field last season. The Stags' lone loss in the series came on the road in 2013.

The Seahawks will also enter play with a 1-1 record, last defeating Delaware State 5-0 at home. Wagner dropped a 3-2 double overtime decision to Rider in their season opener. Wagner returns their leading goal scorer from last season in Maria Nunez, who is already tops on the team with two scores.

The Stags and the Bulldogs will be meeting for the 16th time in their program history, renewing a rivalry with their first meeting since 2013. The two teams met nearly every year from 1995 – 2008, with the Stags holding a 4-10-1 record in the series.

Yale will be playing in their first home game after opening up their 2019 campaign at St. John's on Friday night. The Bulldogs were picked to finish seventh in the Ivy League Coaches Poll. The team returns senior midfielder Noelle Higginson, who earned First Team All-Conference honors last season after tying the league lead with seven assists.

The Stags will wrap up their longest road trip of the season when they visit Penn on Friday, Sept. 6, at 7pm.
