Men's Basketball Non-Conference Schedule Is Set

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Basketball Head Coach Jay Young announced the 2019-20 non-conference schedule which features three home games, five away games, and three neutral games at the ESPN Orlando Invitational  in Orlando, Fla. The Stags will take on teams from five different conferences that include the Patriot League, the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), the Horizon League, the Northeast Conference, and the Big Ten.

"Our non-conference schedule provides us with the chance to play quality teams and prepares us for the rigors of the MAAC schedule," Coach Young said. "I am especially pleased to play in the ESPN Orlando Invitational which gives us an opportunity to play games in a tournament setting much like our conference tournament."

The season begins with a pair of home games beginning with Fairfield hosting Bucknell University on November 5, the sixth time in the last seven seasons that the two teams will match up with each other. Fairfield won three of the previous five games against the Bison including last year's 60-58 decision on the road.

The Stags will welcome the University of Massachusetts on November 9 to renew a series that includes six all-time meetings. The Minutemen and the Stags split their six previous meetings.

The College of the Holy Cross will be the site of Fairfield's first road game of 2019-20 as the squads will take the court on November 12 in Worcester. The two programs will see each other for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign, a series that includes 41 meetings.

Fairfield will continue its road trip with a game against Patriot League opponent Loyola University Maryland on November 17. The Stags and the Greyhounds renew their series, the first meeting between these teams since Fairfield earned a 64-52 win at Webster Bank Arena in November, 2017. The Stags will stay in the state for a contest with the University of Maryland on November 19, a game which is part of the ESPN Orlando Invitational.

The Stags will complete its run through the ESPN Orlando Invitational with three games between November 28 and December 1 at HP Field House at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Fairfield and the University of Southern California will meet at 4 pm on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, with the tip time slated for 4 pm. Fairfield will be play either Marquette University of Davidson College on the second day of the tournament, November 29 with the opponent being determined by the outcome of the first day's results. The second semifinal game will begin at either 4 pm or 4:30 pm, while the second consolation game will take place at 6:30 or 7 pm. After a day off, the Invitational resumes on December 1 with the game pairings determined based on the results of the first two days of competition. All three games will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.

Coach Young will bring his team back to Connecticut for its final non-conference home game when the team hosts William and Mary on December 8. The teams will meet for the fourth time in their history with the last two coming as a home-and-home series in 2006-07 and 2007-08, the first of which was part of the BracketBuster Series.

Fairfield completes its non-conference slate with a pair of road games, beginning with Oakland University (Mich.) on December 21 and ending with a December 28 game at Wagner College.

Fairfield University Men's Basketball will play home games this season at both Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport and on campus on George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall. Home venues for all games will be available after the complete schedule is announced. The MAAC slate will be comprised of 20 games, including 10 home outings.
