FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Director of Athletics
Paul Schlickmann has been appointed Vice Chair of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Oversight Committee. The appointment, which begins on July 1, 2019, is a part of Schlickmann's current four-year term on the NCAA Division I Council.
Schlickmann will work alongside Committee Chair and Conference USA Commissioner Judy MacLeod. The Men's Basketball Oversight Committee is charged with ensuring the appropriate oversight of men's basketball is maintained, enhancing the development and public perception of the sport and making recommendations related to regular-season and postseason men's basketball. The committee prioritizes enhancement of the student-athlete educational experience (academically and athletically), and in doing so, promotes student-athletes' personal growth and leadership development.
"I am honored to be chosen by my colleagues to serve as the Vice Chair of the Division I Men's Basketball Oversight Committee," said Schlickmann. "Men's Basketball is an important touchstone for Fairfield University, the MAAC, and the NCAA as a whole, and I look forward to representing all of those constituents during this critical inflection point in this great game."
Fairfield's Director of Athletics since September of 2017 and a veteran athletics administrator with more than 25 years of experience, Schlickmann has previously served appointments on the Division I Competition Oversight Committee, Division I Women's Soccer Committee (serving as Chair in 2006) and the Division I Football Championship Committee.
