WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Tennis will play for the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship (MAAC) after knocking off third-seeded Marist, 4-1, in today's semifinal round at Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J. The second-seeded Stags will meet top-seeded Quinnipiac at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the 2019 MAAC Championship Match.
Â
Marist got on the board first by picking up the doubles point. The All-MAAC First Team duo of
Anna Komer and
Jessica Pil earned a win for the Stags in the #3 spot, but the Red Foxes claimed the top two doubles matches to clinch the point.
Â
In singles action, the Stags took the lead on straight-set wins from
Diana Prinos at #2 and Komer at #4. A three-set win for
Sophia Prinos at #5 put the Stags in striking distance before Pil sealed the match with a win at #6.
Â
The Stags return to the MAAC Championship Match for the first time since 2014 and will be vying for their first conference crown since 2012. Quinnipiac is the five-time defending MAAC Champion and has never lost in MAAC regular season or postseason play since joining the conference beginning in the 2014 campaign.
