Final Midweek Outing Sends Stags to NJIT

The Stags have won back-to-back overtime games

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Winner of back-to-back games for the first time this season, Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse heads to Newark to meet the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Opening faceoff is set for 6 p.m. at Alumni Field on the campus of Rutgers-Newark.

Last Time Out
For the second time in four days, Fairfield overcame a fourth-quarter deficit and surged to an overtime victory with Friday's 10-9 win over Utah on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. Travis Ford delivered the walk-off game-winner for the Stags in the extra session.

The attack was led by Dylan Beckwith, who netted four goals and handed out one assist. All four of Beckwith's goals came in the second half, including three in the fourth quarter.

In the cage, James Corasaniti made 13 saves in addition to handing out his first career assist - a heave from beyond midfield that hit Beckwith cutting in front of the crease for the game-tying marker with 3:14 left in regulation.

CAA Rookie of the Week
After manning the cage for all 124:14 of the Stags' pair of overtime wins this past week, James Corasaniti has been named the CAA Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
The freshman goalkeeper made eight saves at Bryant and collected three ground balls. He continued his strong play on Friday against Utah, turning away 13 shots with three ground balls in the come-from-behind overtime win.

In addition to his work in the cage, Corasaniti also contributed one of the offensive highlights of Friday's game as his pass from beyond midfield connected with Dylan Beckwith for the game-tying goal with 3:14 to play. The assist marked the first point for a Fairfield goalkeeper since Joe Marra picked up an assist against Yale on April 12, 2008.

Scouting NJIT
Coming off of a 15-11 loss at Saint Joseph's this weekend, NJIT welcomes Fairfield to Newark sporting a record of 1-7. The lone win for the Highlanders in 2019 came on March 5 in the form of an 8-5 home victory over Monmouth. The fifth-year program has four Division I wins in its history and has never won multiple games in a season.

Leading the attack once again is Aaron Forster, who is already the program's all-time leading scorer, with 20 goals and seven assists. Ryan Darrow added 15 goals and six helpers for 21 points to his credit.

The Highlanders are at an even .400 on the draw this season at 82-of-205. The majority of that work on the dot has been handled by Tyler Stevenson, who is 65-of-137 (.474) with 22 ground balls.

All but 26 seconds in the cage have been assumed by Alexzander Hunt. He has ceded 111 goals with 131 saves for a .541 save percentage and a 13.89 goals-against average.

All-Time Series vs. NJIT (Fairfield leads 2-0)
The Stags are 2-0 all-time vs. NJIT, having upended the Highlanders in each of the last two seasons. Tuesday's meeting will be the first in the series to take place outside of Rafferty Stadium.

Up Next
Action returns to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on Saturday, March 23 as the Stags wrap-up the non-conference portion of the schedule with a visit from Villanova (3-4).
