Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's Tennis Falls to Marist and NJIT

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Fairfield men's tennis fell to both Marist 0-4 and NJIT 1-4 on Saturday as they hosted both teams at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.

In the early match against Marist, the Stags dropped the Doubles point but Tyler Shibles and Lewis Edwards picked up a win in #1 Doubles as they took down John Oxner and Christopher Gladden 6-3.

The match was ended after Marist won the first three Singles matches resulting in a 0-4 loss for the Stags.  At the time, Tyler Shibles, Allan Magid, and John Hatala were in the third set of their respective Singles matches.

"We came out flat against Marist and couldn't quite overcome it" said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "We competed hard and most likely were going to take a couple of the remaining points had we played it out, but they executed better than us overall."

Against NJIT, Fairfield again dropped the Doubles point with Tyler Shibles and Lewis Edwards winning the lone match 6-4 over Zac Castagna and Aleksa Petrovic.

John Hatala defeated Juan Bejarano (6-3, 6-1) in #6 Singles to started off Singles competition but after putting up a strong effort in #2, #1, and #3 Singles, the Stags could not pick up another win.

"We came out with great energy against NJIT and it showed throughout the match" said Bricker. "A couple of points bounce our way instead of theirs and we win that match. Excellent rebound by the men. Tyler and Lewis are playing at a really high level in doubles."

Fairfield returns to actions tomorrow as they take on Yale at 1 P.M. in New Haven.
