BUFFALO, N.Y. – For the second year in a row, Fairfield Women's Swimming and Diving have won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships. The Stags held their first-place position for all four days of competition to become the 2019 Champions.
The final day of competition started the same way it did in 2018, with a dominating win from
Sara Ostensen in the 1650 Yard Freestyle as she finished with a time of 16:50.59.
Shannon Feeley finished behind Ostensen for the second-place medal clocking in at 17:12.06.
Sarah Herbold also finished in sixth while
Delaney Walsh finished in eighth and
Haleigh McLaughlin placed ninth.
Maria Nitti finished first in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 51.74 and
Samantha D'Alessandro finished soon after in third place at 52.61.
Colleen Young took home the first-place finish in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a final time of 2:18.57 while
Oreoluwa Cherebin placed third clocking in at 2:23.05.
Emily Vlass also placed fifth at 2:23.19.
Morgan Hansen and
Sara Ostensen went one two in the 200 Yard Butterfly with Hansen finishing first clocking in at 2:02.90 and Ostensen finishing with a time of 2:05.28.
Sarah Scelsa also placed eighth in the event.
The Stags capped off their championship weekend with a win in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay as
Samantha D'Alessandro,
Maria Nitti,
Sarah Herbold, and
Kelly Cordes clocked in at 3:29.76 and put the exclamation mark on their MAAC Championship victory.
Erin Wind and
Caitlin Campbell also placed ninth and thirteenth respectively in the 1 Meter Diving.
Fairfield finished the Championships with a total of 776 points giving them a dominating defeat over Marist which finished in second with 646 points and third place Rider with 551.5 points.
Morgan Hansen was named the MAAC Championship's Women's Most Outstanding Swimmer tallying three individual wins in the 200 Butterfly, 200 Individual Medley, and the 100 Butterfly where her time of 55.38 was a new MAAC Championships record. For the second straight year, Coach Bruno was selected by his peers as the 2019 MAAC Coach of the Year.
