Stags Ring in 2020 at Siena on Thursday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will open up Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play when they take the court for the first time in the new decade when they travel to Siena on Thursday, Jan. 2 at 7pm. The Stags own a 23-15 all-time record in MAAC openers with a 10-12 mark on the road.

The Stags closed out the non-conference slate with a 3-6 record after falling to Brown on Dec. 22 at Alumni Hall. Fairfield struggled offensively throughout the game, tallying just 44 points in the 58-44 setback. Fairfield tallied 17 field goals and 10 free throws in the contest, marking the first time they have not hit a 3-pointer since Jan. 22, 2015 against Rider and only the third time in the 13 years under Head Coach Joe Frager.

Katie Armstrong led the Stags with 11 points and eight rebounds, the fourth-straight game she has had the team lead in boards with eight.

Fairfield will be playing in their first game of 2020 when they take the court. Fairfield is 24-14 in their first game of a new year with 7-4 mark under Frager.

This will be the fourth time the Stags and the Saints have opened up a conference schedule with Fairfield holding a 2-1 record. All-time Fairfield is 23-15 in MAAC openers with a 10-12 clip on the road.

Siena will open MAAC play after two-straight losses to UMass and Fairleigh Dickinson on the road. Despite their 2-7 overall record, the Saints have been dangerous at home with a 2-1 mark.

As a team, the Saints average 53.3 points and 33.7 rebounds per game. They also have averaged over nine steals per game with 83 swipes in their first nine games.

Sabrina Piper is the team's leading scorer with a 17.0 per game clip. She is the team's best playmakers, averaging 20 field goal attempts per game. Transfer Rayshel Brown has played in the last four games after becoming eligible and pours in 14.0 points per contest. She is also the team's best free throw shooter, hitting 10 of her first 11 attempts as a Saint.

The Stags will have another week off, next hosting Monmouth on the annual Kids' Day Out on Jan. 9. Fairfield will welcome the local school kids and the Hawks at 11am.
