FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will complete their season opening three-game road trip when they visit LIU on Wednesday at 7pm. The game will be streamed live on NEC Front Row.
The Stags fought hard in the first half in their loss to Seton Hall, ending the first 20 minutes on a 10-1 run.
Rachel Hakes scored six-straight points during the run, and is averaging a team-high 11.0 points over the team's first two games. During that early span, Hakes has also dished out six assists per contest and is shooting 67 percent (6-for-9).
Katie Armstrong made the first bucket of the second half and
Sam Kramer converted a 4-point play to put the Stags within eight points, but Fairfield would get no closer. The Stags limited the Big East Preseason Player of the Year Shadeen Samuels to just 12 points on 3-for-6 shooting. The Stags were crushed on the boards, however, being out-rebounded 44-22.
Kramer's 4-point play represented the second of her career, with the first being the game-winner at Rider in 2016. It was also the 109th 3-point field goal of her career, passing Desiree Pina '08 for 13th all-time.
In their first year as LIU, the Sharks have dropped their first two decisions to Saint Peter's and Rhode Island. Brandy Thomas, the reigning NEC Rookie of the Year, leads the team with 16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds during the first two contests. As a team, the Sharks are averaging 42.0 rebounds per game and are forcing 16.5 turnovers.
The Stags will head home for the first time during the 2019-20 season when they welcome Dartmouth to the George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall on Sunday, Nov., 17 at 2pm.
