FAIRFIELD, Conn. – On a cold and rainy night, the Fairfield University Women's Soccer team could not find their momentum on either side of the ball as they fell 3-0 to the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. The setback snaps Fairfield's three-game conference winning streak, matching their best start in MAAC play in five years.
The Stags (6-4-2, 3-1 MAAC) allowed just 10 shots for the match, but Quinnipiac (6-6, 2-3 MAAC) was able to convert their few chances, including their first attempt. After not recording a shot for 18 minutes, Selena Salas chipped a ball to Emily Loney, who would be successful on a 1v1 opportunity against the goalkeeper.
The Bobcats would score their second goal on just their third shot in the 34th minute and capped their three goal outing in the 60th.
The Stags out-shot Quinnipiac 13-10 and had 7-5 advantage on shots on target, but Fairfield was not able to find any force behind their shots. Most of the seven saves by Quinnipiac's Meaghan Phillips were untested, but the Stags did have other opportunities.
Gabby Diodati sent a cross into the box where
Liz Dumas made a great run to get by her defender, but her header was just over the bar and the Stags were turned away.
Dumas would lead the Stags with four shots while sophomore
Amy Akerley followed her with three. Akerley put two shots on target, including arguably the most dangerous one in the 62nd minute, but her shot would be stopped by Phillips.
The Stags will look to get back on track when they host Manhattan on Saturday at 2pm.
