Men's Basketball Hosts Iona On Sunday Afternoon

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team will host Iona Colllege at Alumni Hall on Sunday afternoon. The tip is scheduled for 1 pm and will broadcast on ESPN+.

The Stags finish up their three-game home stand on Sunday, coming off a 57-48 loss to Siena at Webster Bank Arena. Wassef Methnani paced the Fairfield offense, coming off the bench to tally a season-high 15 points by making six of 10 field goal attempts. He netted three shots behind the three-point arc which set a new personal-best for that category. Neftali Alvarez was the team's other double-digit scorer with 10 points, his third straight game with 10 or more points.

Alvarez and Landon Taliaferro are tied for the top spot on the Stags' scoring list, both netting 12.0 points per game. Jonathan Kasibabu rates third with his 11.5 scoring average while Jesus Cruz stands fourth with 10.0 points per contest. Kasibabu grabbed seven rebounds against Siena, which sets his rebounding average to 8.2 caroms per contest. He remains the MAAC leader in field goal percentage (.589) and in rebounding (8.2 rpg). The senior also sits atop the same categories for MAAC only games, averaging 9.5 rebounds and shooting 68.7 percent from the floor.

The Gaels collected a 77-71 win over previously unbeaten Rider behind a 20-point night from E.J. Crawford and 19 points from Rickey McGill. Iona enters this game as the top scoring team in the MAAC with its 80.9 scoring average. The Gaels are the only team posting more than 80 points per game as a team in the conference. The team's offensive prowess can be tied to the three-point line, placing second in the MAAC with 9.4 three pointers made per game.

E.J. Crawford leads the team in scoring with 16.6 points per game, one of four Gaels netting better than 10 points per game. Rickey McGill, who is making 49.7 percent of his field goal attempts, is adding 15.6 points every forty minutes. Rajuan Agee and Asante Gist are next in line with 12.9 and 12.3 scoring averages respectively. Gist does most of his damage from behind the three-point line with 34 of his 66 field goals coming from long range. Agee provides his teammates with more than just a scorer, leading all Gaels with his 7.3 rebounding average.
