Box Score HAMDEN, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team suffered their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) loss of the season as they fell 3-0 to the host Quinnipiac Bobcats on Saturday afternoon.
Neither side had many opportunities in the match with both sides combining for eight shots on goal, with Fairfield (5-3-1, 0-1-1 MAAC) managing only two attempts on target against the Quinnipiac (4-4-1, 1-0-1 MAAC) defense.
Four of Fairfield's nine shots occurred during the first 25 minutes of play, but neither could touch the back of the net.
Julia Kleczkowski recorded the first attempt by either side in the third minute, but her attempt went wide. Quinnipiac answered with their first shot three minutes later, one that was saved by
Aytana Muschajew, one of her three saves on the afternoon.
Quinnipiac would score all three of their goals in a 20 minute span, with their final score coming in the 51st minute. Ally Grunstein assisted on all three Quinnipiac goals, with two of those being scored by last year's MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year Kelsey Goldring. The only goal scored by another Bobcat came off the foot of Selena Salas, who touched net in the final minute of the first half.
The Stags managed just three shots in the second half with
Liz Dumas' attempt requiring a save from the Quinnipiac goalkeeper Olivia Myszewski, who picked up two in the match.
Fairfield was out-shot 12-9 in the contest including a 5-0 margin in corner kicks. Kleczkowski,
Gabby Diodati, and
Alex Madden led the team with two shots each.
Fairfield will look to get back into the win column when they host Rider on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 7pm.
