RICHMOND, Va. – After protecting the cage in Friday night's win at Hofstra, Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse goalkeeper Max McGuire has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week.  McGuire made eight stops against the Pride, outdueling Hofstra's All-America netminder Jack Concannon en route to a 5-4 Fairfield victory.
 
In just his third career appearance and start, McGuire limited Hofstra to four goals – Fairfield's best defensive showing since ceding only four goals in the 2016 CAA Championship Game. His save on the first possession of the fourth quarter started the Stags' 3-0 rally in the frame to take a 5-4 edge with 21 seconds to go. McGuire bookended the stretch with his eighth and final save just before the final horn to preserve the one-goal triumph. In total, he kept the Pride off the board for the final 18:08 of the day as the Stags stormed back to garner a pivotal CAA win over the nation's stingiest defense.
 
To date, McGuire has been in the cage for three one-goal games totaling 180:33 of action. He owns a 9.30 goals-against average and .472 save percentage.
 
Fairfield (4-8, 1-1 CAA) returns to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium to host Drexel on Saturday, April 14 at noon as the front-end of the annual Fairfield Lacrosse Military Appreciation Day doubleheader.
