Preseason Guide | Fairfield vs. Vermont Media Notes
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse opens the 2018 season this Saturday, Feb. 10 on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium with a visit from Vermont. Faceoff between the Stags and Catamounts is set for noon in the front-end of a Fairfield Lacrosse doubleheader. The day will also feature Fairfield Women's Lacrosse beginning the 2018 campaign at 3 p.m. against Holy Cross.
Now in their 10th season led by Head Coach
Andy Copelan, the Stags return to the field after a 5-9 campaign. Fairfield ended the spring of 2017 on a high note with back-to-back CAA home wins over #15 Towson – an eventual Final Four participant – and Delaware, but failed to qualify for the CAA postseason for the first time in three years as a member of the conference.
"As a coach, you tend to do a lot of reflection after a 5-9 season. But we've made a conscious effort to not make this year about last year," said Copelan. "We've learned from it and identified things we need to continue to work on, but our focus is on 2018 and on a very tough opponent in Vermont coming to Rafferty Stadium this Saturday."
The Catamounts began their 2018 season with a 2-0 southern road trip that featured a 12-6 win at Furman on Feb. 1 and an 11-3 triumph at Mercer on Feb. 3. Vermont went 5-8 last season (1-5 America East) without the services of vaunted All-America attackman Ian MacKay, who returned to the lineup last weekend to the tune of five goals and an assist over the two victories.
