MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Women's Swimming and Diving broke the program record of 10 wins today with two victories against Wesleyan and Coast Guard giving them their 11
th win and finishing the season at 11-3. The women defeated Wesleyan 196-101 and U.S. Coast Guard Academy 221-67. The men fought hard against Wesleyan but were edged by a score of 151-135 and fell to Coast Guard 225-66.
The women began the day with a big win in the 200 Yard Medley Relay as
Kelly Cordes,
Victoria Krivitsky,
Morgan Hansen, and
Maria Nitti finished with a time of 1:49.76.
Sara Ostensen won the first individual event on the day finishing at 10:29.00 in the 1000 Yard Freestyle. She also won the 200 Yard Butterfly with a final time of 2:08.26.
Sarah Herbold also had a two-win day as she finished in the top spot in the 200 Yard Freestyle (1:55.02) and the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:05.31).
Maria Nitti took home the win in two events as well finishing at 24.71 in the 50 Yard Freestyle and 54.63 in the 100 Yard Freestyle.
Alzbeta Andrikova won the 100 Yard Breaststroke clocking in at 1:08.11 while
Colleen Young finished first in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a final time of 2:26.78.
Morgan Hansen also dominated the field in the 100 Yard Butterfly clocking in at 58.34 and won the 200 Yard IM with a final time of 2:14.77.
Kylie More came away with an important win in the 1 Meter Diving with a total score of 231.45. The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team (
Maria Nitti,
Sarah Herbold,
Sara Ostensen, and
Kelly Cordes) closed out the record setting meet with a second-place finish.
On the men's side, Sophomore
Nick Giardiello started the day finishing in second place in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 10:11.20.
Jordan Rahurahu won the 500 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 4:45.55. He also finished second in the 200 Yard IM clocking in at 1:58.04.
Benjamin Kebbell finished in second place in the 100 Yard Backstroke and the 100 Yard Freestyle.
The Stags will return to action for the 2018 MAAC Championships from Wednesday, February 14 to Saturday, February 17 at the Burt Flickinger Center at Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y.
